I'm not sure why I am doing this but may as well. This has some information from David Wilkerson's Sermon on 'Roving Eyes'. - Roving Eyes.
It's everywhere and it's even worse now. We have Beyonce, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus twerking all over TV in their music videos, we have children, starting from the age of 10 or even younger being exposed to porn and explicit images because they are EVERYWHERE. Sometimes, I honestly think it's best to not own a TV because getting into pornography and lusting after men or women leads both your spirit and body into it. When you feel alone and you're curious, that's when the devil will speak to you, "come on...go on and watch it, just this once, you can always repent later. After all, God is a forgiving and merciful God...'. Then you go on to watch that filth, but still do not feel satisfied after watching it, you feel dirty and full of filth and sin. You are still empty. But remember, just then, that the you have grieved the Holy Spirit, He leaves.
This began with Eve. She was tricked into eating that forbidden fruit. She was asked by that serpent, "Did God REALLY say you must not eat from any tree in the garden?" That's how your mind tells you to work too. 'Did God really say you cannot lie, there's nothing wrong with lying...' Or 'God didn't say you can't watch pornography, it's a natural part of life and everybody does it...go on, do it, repent later, God will understand...' OR 'There's nothing wrong with appreciating the creation of God...' - I had that. Especially when looking at rappers and artists like Trey Songs (yes, I was that girl who loved Trey Songs).
But I understand for men it's different...maybe similar to women. You see women who dress, walk and act like prostitutes. They tempt your eyes. Especially with the magazines, women dress like prostitutes. That's how you know temptation is there and believe you me, it will get worse the more time goes by. But the question is, why would any true Child of God focus his or her eyes on ungodly things? Why is is it so hard?
So many of us WANT to seek to please the Lord and walk in Holiness. We do that for a while then seem to fall back down. Why is it so hard to walk straight and consistently? This is why God told us to "...enter through the narrow gate for wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction and many enter through it" Matthew 7:13.
The narrow gate is the most difficult path - you will have many temptations in this life, that's why it makes it so hard. Even David prayed for God to 'turn my eyes away from worthless things, preserve my life according to Your word...' in Psalms 119:37 and 'I will conduct the affairs of my house with a blameless heart. I will not look with approval on anything that is VILE' in Psalms 101:3
Proverbs 4:25 tells us to 'let our eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you'
So you see, what you set your eyes upon is very important. What you watch is important. Of course, what you watch then reflects what you want in your heart. God even warns us to 'guard our hearts, for everything you do flows from it' (Proverbs 4:23). This was clearly important to God. Okay...He didn't set up rules for us to just...NOT have fun. he set up those rules to protect us. He wants what's best for you, even if you cannot see it. It's clearly wrong if the Government have to ban pornography. It's wrong if it ruins marriages. It is wrong if it affects you spiritually. It is IMPOSSIBLE to have PURE heart yet you have wondering eyes. It is impossible to PLEASE God when you do such stuff. You cannot truly love God, go to church, say all the right words, yet you are crazy about men or women.
It is serious if God has to tell you that 'if your right eye offends you, PLUCK IT OUT, and cast it away from you, for it is better to lose one part of your body than your whole body to be thrown into hell.' (Matthew 5:29). Okaaay - God clearly didn't mean cut out your eye, it doesn't make sense. This just means cut out that thing that causes you to sin or fall short. CUT IT OUT. He even mentions this in Matthew 18:9 so clearly its an important message. So, if Christ is truly in your heart, you will have GRIEF each and everytime you sin, each and everytime you watch something that is not pleasing to you. Your Spirit will cry out 'Lord, I am offending You...'
So, can God keep you pure? Even as a single person? Can He give you pure eyes? Of course He can. "To Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy..." - Jude 1:24.
So, your eyes are really something. They must be something if Luke, the Doctor had to say that 'Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body is also full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body is also full of darkness. So, ensure that the light within you is not darkness...'.
What you look at can become an obsession. I used to be obsessed with Trey Songs. I would listen to him for long, fantasize about him, but I stopped listening to that music. I mean...I listen to it every once in while but if it causes me to feel something or even remotely think of something in a sexual way, I have to stop. You can get obsessed with someone if you constantly watch them. You know that movie 'Obsessed' the one with Beyonce in it. That's actually a great example of being obsessed with a man who did nothing to show you he was interested.
Jude 1:18 - "In the last times, there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires. These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit. But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord, Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life..."
I think what led me to write this is the fact that it's becoming so much more worse now. In no time, people will walk around naked and it will be fine. The more it even gets like this, the more normal it will become to people. Years ago, it was shameful to get divorced, nowadays, its a regular thing (not saying that if you're in an abusive relationship, you should stay...)
So, lust is something I'm sure we all deal with - but the best thing is to cut it out. Focus on God, focus on life, focus on something else. Do not watch or read something that will tempt you to fall into it. You will then start hearing voices telling you it's not wrong to do it.
Enjoy your week :)
