A Wife Of Noble Character?

Noble Character? What on EARTH can that mean?

Right, any woman who reads the Bible has come across the 'Proverbs 31' Woman. The one that just seems so perfect, blameless and amazing? Yeah, that VERY one. Her character is just so unbelievable, sometimes when I read it, I think, "WHAT?! How am I supposed to be this perfect?". In my opinion, this woman is there to set a guidance on how a woman should be, but that doesn't mean she doesn't make mistakes. The only thing she represents with her character is that she lived a life of wisdom and she was praised by her husband and children as a husband who surpasses ALL other women. And people can see it anyway they like really. This can also be seen in the context of MEN and WOMEN. Proverbs 31 describes this woman as a bride whose husband has full confidence in her and she brings him good and not harm all the days of her life. This could mean that person seeks to honour God all the days of her life. She likes to work and spend time with God and goes far beyond what is convenient to do, she goes to the THRONE of God.

She gets up while it is still night, this could mean that person gets up before the time does and prays for those under her care, ensuring she prays for everybody going through something. This is a person who is concerned about those people who have nothing, she is not selfish but she thinks about other people.

So, the Proverbs 31 woman can be seen in this sense or it can be seen in the sense that the 'husband' who is pleased with you is God and you should be a Bride who is worthy of Christ.

But thinking of all this in the physical sense - i.e. a woman who is married or wants to get married...or is single too...

What is the Proverbs 31 woman? Well, who is not the Proverbs 31 woman? These are probably the opposite of her. Loud, seductive, defiant and constant decay in their husband's bones (I guess that means constant nagging). I think it's a good thing but whenever I read that passage...it reminds me of my mother. *grins*

This poem of the Proverbs 31 woman describes a woman who is hard working, enterprising, strong, wise, capable, skilled, generous, thinks of others, dignified, God fearing, serene, supportive and a tremendous blessing to her husband. (That's a LOT to take in). Anyway, there's more, this woman who is the 'perfect woman' would wake up at DAWN to cook for her family, she would look at houses and consider them and purchase them. She would make clothes (shows how hard she works) and then sold them (I'm guessing she runs her own business). Her husband would praise her and her children too.

Well...that's so different to the women of today, who tend to focus more on their beauty. The Proverbs 31 woman...(in my opinion), relates to both men and women. Throughout Proverbs...we have a depiction of 'wisdom' and we are instructed not to ignore her. As wise men and women...are must produce shelter for others, serenity, honour, prosperity, generosity, confidence etc.

I don't know about you...but reading Proverbs 31:10 makes me so TIRED. I feel so discouraged but after reading this devotional I recently got...I realise that she is a capable woman. She fears (respects) God. She is worthy to be praised because she fears God.

So, don't be discouraged about having to be the perfect wife, girlfriend, woman...but pray that God should make you a woman who longs for wisdom. That is all.

A woman/lady is strong when she has:

  • Self Respect - Respecting yourself and your body
  • Self Esteem - How to see YOURSELF as a person
  • Self Worth
  • When she is humble before God and her strength is proven before God.
Remain strong, girls!
